Catholics pray the Rosary because it helps us meditate on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the eyes and heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
At first glance, the Rosary can seem like a prayer focused mainly on the Blessed Virgin Mary because of the repeated Hail Marys. But the heart of the Rosary is really meditation on the mysteries of Christ. As we pray, we contemplate the major moments of the Gospel: the Incarnation, the public ministry of Jesus, His Passion, and His Resurrection and glory.
The Rosary also teaches us how to pray with Our Lady. And, in doing so, Catholics do not worship Mary. Rather, we ask for her intercession and allow her to lead us more deeply to her Son. Just as Mary pondered the mysteries of Jesus in her heart, the Rosary invites us to do the same.
In this way, the Rosary is both simple and deeply biblical. It slows us down, fixes our minds on Christ, and helps form our hearts to become more like His.
